If a Credit Card is Stolen

You might keep your credit card in a safe place which does not mean it will never get misused or stolen. There is a lot, which can happen. Below is information about what steps to take if your credit card does get stolen or misused:

  • If your credit card has been misused or stolen, contact the police as soon as possible. This can make matters easier for you and the card issuer.

  • Having the contact number for your card issuer is important as you can contact them as soon as your credit has been lost or stolen. Try not to keep your credit card and the card issuer phone number together.

  • When travelling abroad, make sure you know what arrangements can be made if your card is lost.

  • Try to get a credit card protection policy in place before using your credit card. In an event of the credit card being lost or stolen, replacements can be ordered and emergency cash advances can be obtained.

Writing your PIN number and keeping this information with your credit card is not a good idea. Some card issuers will make you responsible and this could stop you getting a refund. Always read the terms and conditions when applying for a credit card.
