Contactless credit cards being trialled

The Apacs association stated that contactless plastic new data
will be trialled in London September period, and in the new year
a new national rollout led by Mastercard and Visa Europe will
also be introduced.
Some credit
card holders will
be able to use their credit and debit card details in a similar
way to Oyster travel cards (London Underground) by connecting
them with a reader.
Apacs feel this new method is effective, fast and easy to use
and will be the new technology soon. It is also as safe as the
chip and pin method.
General manager at MasterCard,John Bushby commented, "Today we
are giving Londoners a completely new way to pay for low-value
items with the launch of contactless payments."
Figures have been estimated that by 2008 five million contactless
credit and debit cards will be in use.
Jose San Juan, Visa’s UK managing director stated that
the cards will provide a "highly convenient and quick way to
pay for low value items".
