08/05/2007

The Apacs association stated that contactless plastic new data will be trialled in London September period, and in the new year a new national rollout led by Mastercard and Visa Europe will also be introduced.

Some credit card holders will be able to use their credit and debit card details in a similar way to Oyster travel cards (London Underground) by connecting them with a reader.

Apacs feel this new method is effective, fast and easy to use and will be the new technology soon. It is also as safe as the chip and pin method.

General manager at MasterCard,John Bushby commented, "Today we are giving Londoners a completely new way to pay for low-value items with the launch of contactless payments."

Figures have been estimated that by 2008 five million contactless credit and debit cards will be in use.

Jose San Juan, Visa’s UK managing director stated that the cards will provide a "highly convenient and quick way to pay for low value items".
