Laura Ashleys
store card review
09/05/2007
Consumers with Laura Ashley’s store card may be receiving
unsolicited credit cards.
Cardholders have received by GE Capital an upgrade of their previous
card; the company distributed 13 million store cards in the whole
of the UK.
The new card has a higher limit and can be used at any retailer,
comparing this with the store card Laura Ashley, it has much
more choices, as Laura Ashley's store card had low spending limits
and many more disadvantages.
Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Monsoon, Topshop are all ran by GE Capital,
they charge a high interest rate of ten per cent, more higher
than a standard credit
card. This was reviewed by The Mail on
Sunday.
GE Capital has been told before of being careless in the past,
when they carried out a procedure with Debenhams store card customers.
Vincent Cable Liberal Democrat told on Sunday the Mail: "Once
again, GE is promoting irresponsible lending."
Recently store cards have been a main focus by the Competition
Commission, they stated that store card providers are notifying
customers the charges when they receive their monthly bank statements,
leaving customers to pay much more interest.
