Credit cards fight online shopping
fraud
05/09/2007
MasterCard have joined SecureCode,
which are verified by Visa services. When shopping online it
has made it more secure for UK cardholders, according to APACS,
the UK payments association.
Currys, British Airways, Dixons, various online websites and
PC World, are introducing these new secure systems.
Cardholders shop through internet nearly
everyday; APACS are consulting consumers to register their cards
with MasterCard SecureCode.
Director of communications at APACS, Sandra Quinn commented: “Nearly
ten million registered cards is clearly an important milestone
in the development of e-commerce in the UK. The industry has
worked hard to provide practical solutions to fight online shopping
fraud and we are calling on those cardholders not yet signed
up to do so and take the appropriate security measures when shopping online.”
In order to help UK cardholders and make them understand about
MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa, APACS have launched
a consumer advice tour guide clearing up the registration process
and security advantages in more detail. People can download the
guide from apacs.org.uk and cardwatch.org.uk. Apacs feel this
will minimize fraud to a lower degree and leave UK credit
card holders
vacant of becoming a victim of fraud.
